The Role

The position is responsible for leading many aspects of oversight, governance and portfolio support to work with the team to manage a growing portfolio of privately held assets. This individual will be the primary coordinator of portfolio support which entails day-to-day operational requirements for a multi-billion portfolio working in partnership with the investment team and various shared resources in legal, tax, insurance, risk, treasury, and audit. Second, the position will support oversight of individual portfolio assets in collaboration with the investment team. The role will partner with the management teams of portfolio companies via board and observer seats. And third, the position will support the development & communication of the investment strategy and performance for the natural resources platform. This role requires hands-on work, day-to-day tactical responsibilities and a flexible can-do attitude.

This position will report to the Managing Director of the Natural Resources Platform. The platform consists of dozens of direct real asset investments and continues to add new exposures to its portfolio. As a result of this growth, Devonshire is adding this new position. Primary responsibilities will include the following: own day-to-day portfolio management, oversee certain portfolio assets, and support the development & communication of investment thesis, strategy and performance.

The Expertise We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA or CFA preferred

  • Portfolio oversight or finance experience with Private Equity/Venture Capital Funds with preference for experience in funds that focus on natural resources or real assets

  • Experience in or working with professionals in private markets investment management and supporting functions for portfolio management and oversight (e.g., tax, legal, treasury, finance, compliance, risk, insurance), either in internal shared-services roles or through third party providers

  • Ability to work within a matrixed reporting environment

The Skills You Bring

  • 7-10 years’ experience as a vice president/director at an institutionally scaled direct investment platform, preferably in an institutional asset manager such as a large family office, multi-family office, or private equity General Partner

  • Prior experience in a private markets investing platform is a strong preference with experience in real assets desired (e.g. natural resources or infrastructure)

  • Direct experience in corporate governance roles, such as serving as a advisory board member or representative

  • Strong financial and analytical skills; capability to analyze financial statements and understand implications for the business

  • Gravitas to engage with portfolio company management, partners and senior executives

  • A proven record of delivering results and demonstrating impact

  • Strong attention to detail, sense of urgency, ownership and execution orientation

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to persuade through influence rather than directive

  • Willingness to travel approximately twice per month for company meetings and/or industry conferences

The Value You Deliver

  • Partner with the investment team and operations teams on portfolio management and oversight

  • Serve as investor representative for individual holdings alongside fellow team members; develop strong working relationships with management teams and investment partners

  • Manage all vendor and research provider contracts and relationships (with additional administrative support)

  • Manage and oversee platform of third-party Advisors. Build a robust ecosystem to better leverage expertise across the existing Advisor network.

  • Support special projects on portfolio strategy, portfolio oversight and benchmarking

  • In coordination with investment team, draft/review presentations to investment committees and certain other boards/governance groups on investment performance updates

  • Coordinate with internal corporate shared services and external service providers including:

    • The investment team

    • Devonshire professionals in HR, finance, legal and treasury

    • Internal Fidelity corporate shared services, such as tax, accounting, finance, legal, risk, audit, compliance, insurance etc.

    • Third party consultants/advisors for Fund-level activities, such as PwC audit team, valuation, tax, accounting etc.

    • Third party asset managers for fund investments (i.e. timber property managers; managers of mineral & royalty assets)

    • Managers, staff and senior executives of portfolio companies

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.

The base salary range for this position is $185,000 - $265,000 per year.

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
