HR Generalist

The HR Generalist provides professional human resources support to assigned departments and serves as a primary point of contact for employees and supervisors regarding HR policies, programs, and procedures. The position assists with employee relations, recruitment and onboarding, performance management support, policy interpretation, and regulatory compliance. The HR Generalist works in coordination with central HR functions and specialized divisions including Employee Relations, ADA Coordination, Learning & Development, Risk Management, Compensation, Benefits, Compliance, and HR Metrics to ensure consistent and legally compliant HR practices across the organization. The position supports the HR Supervisor in maintaining effective HR service delivery within assigned departments and may provide backup coverage during supervisor absences. Progression through HR Generalist tiers reflects increased experience, independence, and strategic HR partnership with departmental leadership.

Requirements and Job Specifications

Education Required: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. Preferred: Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Human Resources. Area of Study (major) Required: Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or closely related field. Certification(s) Required: N/A. Preferred: PHR or SHRM-CP. Years Relevant Work Experience: Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred: Two (2) years of professional HR experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of basic HR principles, employment law fundamentals, and HR best practices. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Effective written and verbal communication.

Functions and Duties

Essential Functions and Duties: Handle routine HR inquiries independently; escalate complex issues to Supervisor or central HR. Provide support for departmental onboarding and preboarding. Assist with recruitment logistics and applicant tracking system data entry. Maintain personnel files and ensure documentation compliance. Secondary Duties: Participate in Departmental meetings and report back to Human Resources as pertinent. Assist with HR initiatives as directed. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the effective delivery of human resources services.
