An independent, fee-only Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) firm with approximately $5 billion in assets under management is seeking experienced advisors within the Detroit metro area.
The organization currently has 15-16 advisors and offices located in Troy, Grand Blanc, and Novi.
Position Overview
This is a client relationship-focused advisory role within a collaborative financial planning environment.
The firm is seeking an advisor, not necessarily an entire practice. A portable book of business is preferred but not strictly required.
Advisors will gradually take over approximately 100-150 client relationships during the first year while continuing to build and maintain relationships.
This position is fully in-office. Advisors will initially train in Grand Blanc with the opportunity to transition to Troy after onboarding and training. Occasional travel between offices may be required.
Client Base & Firm Environment
- Fee-only fiduciary advisory environment
- No cold-calling quotas or commission pressure
- Mass affluent client base typically ranging from $700,000 to $3 million in assets
- Strong referral flow and established planning support
- Significant growth within the advisory team
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary plus bonus structure
- Compensation flexibility based on experience and portable assets
- Senior advisors without a significant book typically range from $120,000–$130,000 base compensation
- Advisors bringing portable assets may earn $300,000+ total compensation
- Variable compensation structure included
- $20,000 signing bonus for experienced advisors
- Firm aims to make candidates whole relative to previous compensation plans
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain existing client relationships
- Develop new client relationships through referrals and networking
- Deliver comprehensive financial planning and investment guidance
- Assist clients with retirement planning, asset allocation, estate planning, tax planning, employee benefits, and insurance discussions
- Simplify complex financial concepts for clients
- Work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment
Desired Qualifications
- Series 65 license required
- CFP designation highly preferred
- Strong financial planning background preferred
- 10+ years of wealth management or advisory experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in Finance or Business
- Strong understanding of financial markets and investments
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Candidates with portable assets or existing client relationships strongly preferred
- Must be willing to work within the Detroit metro area
Additional Information
- Fidelity candidates are acceptable
- Schwab advisors cannot be considered due to internal policies
- The firm does not want to violate non-compete agreements or engage in client solicitation
- Hiring process typically consists of 2-3 interviews
- Initial interviews conducted via phone or Zoom followed by in-person meetings
- Urgent hiring need due to advisor capacity and continued growth
