Chief Operating Office

Integrated operations organization works collaboratively and consistently across the company. The Chief Operating Office includes core operations functions for each of the lines of business under leaders who have joint reporting relationships. This includes Chief Control Executive organization, Strategy and Operations Planning, Sales Practices Oversight and Management, Enterprise Shared Services, Strategic Execution & Operations, Corporate Properties Group, Business Continuity and Resiliency, Customer Experience and Supply Chain Management.

The Role

This is a newly created position within the Chief Control Executive organization will lead the implementation of Wells Fargo's RCSA across all Lines of Businesses and Functions. This role will partner closely with the Senior Front Line and Control Executive communities to drive a common approach. This senior leader will be tasked with establishing an effective governance framework to ensure the RCSA remains dynamic capturing significant emerging risks as they arise. This includes risk identification and assessment, risk measurement, risk acceptance and new business initiatives (where applicable) consistent with frameworks and policies established by Independent Risk Management (IRM) in coordination with Control Executive Risk program leaders. This role will also act as a lead contributor in driving requisite technology platforms/tools required for program implementation. In addition, this role will provide input into the development of enterprise-wide risk programs, policies and tools in coordination with Control Executive teams and IRM to ensure first line voice.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Influence the firm wide design and implementation of the Risk Control Self-Assessment, Business Process Management and Enterprise Risk Id Assessment programs
  • Demonstrate core project management skills in order to proceduralize the policy and drive consistent execution of the programs within the Control Executive Teams
  • Demonstrate the ability to influence and navigate across the firm; driving the right outcomes based on the needs
  • Provide governance over risk program activities such as Enterprise Risk ID (ERID) , eRCSA and Risk Appetite
  • Coordinate the implementation of IRM policies to ensure consistency across the firm
  • Provide input into the development of enterprise-wide risk programs, assessing impact with input Control Executive teams, ensure timely implementation of updated program/policy requirements

The successful candidate will also work closely with Senior Managers across the firm in the development and execution of the company's risk management strategies. Will serve as a contributing member of the Control Executive Forum. Accordingly, critical success factors will include the ability to develop partnerships with many functional areas, provide insight into the regulatory climate and identify trends which may present opportunities or reflect gaps in the Company's strategic execution/direction.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of management experience
  • 12+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 12+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 10+ years must include direct experience in risk management

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Meaningful knowledge across enterprise risk management framework, including: risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance
  • Understanding of best-practice risk management techniques across financial services industry
  • Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and understanding of how they are implemented, managed and enforced
  • Deep technical understanding of Corporate Risk operations, processes, and responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders and regulators, to include virtual, matrixed leadership experience and the ability to effectively manage and build relationships within the business and enterprise Risk function
  • Proven leadership and project management skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end to end risk management solutions and controls aligned with business/customer processes
  • Deep understanding of risk framework, corporate/business policies, and programs to translate into plans for the business, function and/or risk type
  • Demonstrated leadership ability that embodies the Wells Fargo Vision and Values and leadership competencies
  • Ethical integrity and demonstrated ability to assess and determine when to raise concerns and escalate
  • Proven ability to build and lead high performing control risk management organization in a matrixed environment, ensure proper staffing and expertise exists and can coach and enable others in risk management and risk ownership
  • Strong analytical ability used to identify risks and confidently raise issues, escalate early and engage in constructive credible challenge and will do so independently when necessary
  • Proven ability to proactively manage and resolve conflict and effectively defend decisions with objective rationale
