Don't Quit Your Day Dream
If given the option, plan your path for the future. Don't wait until you can no longer tolerate your work environment or even worse, are let go to start your job search. Define, research and "try on" a company or new employer using the following tips. Don't quit your day dream of the perfect job, go out and find it!
Networking is the key. Many opportunities to network exist within your reach and thanks to technology, you can network from anywhere! Using LinkedIn and other social media to connect is the quickest and perhaps the easiest way to find a personal connection to any company you desire to join.
While researching on LinkedIn, ask yourself the following questions: Who do you know who works there? Who do my contacts know? Do I have any groups or similar to those I may work with? Does the company have an active LinkedIn page? Do they interest currently have openings?
Be cautious, if your employer is not aware that you are searching employment options. All too often eager candidates provide this knowledge to contacts without considering their connection to your employer. While searching for employment, remember to turn off notifications in LinkedIn that alert others to changes to your page, items you like or groups you follow.
Searching for your ideal employer and job situation is an adventure. Be sure to align your skills or build your skills to meet the employment goals you set. The more you research, learn and observe prior to actually taking the leap to a new employer, the more confident you will be in the company you choose.
